Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised on the outskirts of Barcelona her music has been described as an "atypical pop star" due to her diverse musical styles. When she was of 13, she fell an obsession with Spanish folk music and enrolled in musicology at the Catalonia College of Music. She was also seen at weddings and music bars. Mixing flamenco with hip hop and pop music The album resulted in "Malamente" (single) as well as "Pienso en tu Mira (single). Both songs became hugely popular and garnered a lot of critical praise. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia on the international music scene. She introduced reggaeton to a new spin on her third album Motomami (2022), departing from the new flamenco sound of the album that preceded it. It featured two singles "La Fama"" and "Saoko", the album was a hit worldwide and was voted the best-rated album of the year by Metacritic. Through her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top-ten singles in her home country, which is the highest number for an artist from the country. She has also won two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins) Four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other things. Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the current music landscape with her flamenco-influenced pop"[18]. She was also the first Spanish-singing artist to be nominated at the Grammys for Best New Artist. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She is the eldest of four children to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who owns a tiny metalworking business. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They divorced in 2019. The older sister Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative head. Rosalia was interested in performing arts from an early age. She was able to discover the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical training at the Taller de Musics [es]. She completed a 6 year program in the academy. She began at the Raval school, but later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Additionally, she was an individual singer, performing at weddings and in bars with musical music.
